Lockheed Martin Australia Sponsors Legacy Centenary Community Days
The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Chairman of the Board of Legacy Australia, Eric Easterbrook and Chief Executive, Lockheed Martin Australia, Warren McDonald AO CSC.

CANBERRA, Australia, 29 August 2022 – Lockheed Martin Australia is proud to announce a sponsorship partnership with Legacy Australia in support of the charity’s centennial commemorations in 2023.

The sponsorship will directly support a series of Centenary Community Days to take place around Australia in 2023 as part of the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay, presented by Defence Health. The Relay will start in Pozieres, France on Anzac Day 2023 and travel 55,000 km to London, Perth and all around Australia before finishing at The Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance on October 13 2023.

Lockheed Martin Australia Chief Executive, Warren McDonald AO CSC, said “We are pleased to announce this sponsorship partnership to help commemorate Legacy Australia’s centennial in 2023. We look forward to continuing to play a part in supporting the important and enduring work of Legacy in honouring their promise to protect the partners and children of veterans who gave their lives or health in recognised military service.”

“Our contribution and proud involvement with the Centenary Community Days will assist in continuing Legacy’s important work supporting veterans’ families in communities throughout Australia.”

“At Lockheed Martin Australia we remain deeply committed to the well-being of our military community. This commitment is shared by many of our employees who regularly take part in volunteer networking opportunities to support community events such as this throughout the year,” he said.

Legacy’s Centenary is an important commemoration for Australia. It recognises the sacrifice of so many families over the past century as well as the efforts of countless volunteers who have supported them throughout grief and hardship.

Eric Easterbrook OAM, Chairman, Legacy Australia said “It’s great to have Lockheed Martin on board for the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay 2023 as one of our corporate partners.  The Legacy Centenary Community Days will be another great addition to the Relay event for families and their children during this historic year.”

About Legacy Keeping the Promise Legacy is one of Australia’s oldest and most trusted charities. For almost a century we have supported the families of those who gave their life or health for our country. In the trenches on the Western Front in WWI, the Legacy promise was made by a soldier to his dying mate to “look after the missus and the kids”. Since then, Legacy has continued to support our veterans’ families and keep The Promise alive into the future. Established in 1923 in Melbourne, Australia by Sir Stanley Savige (inspired by Sir John Gellibrand), Legacy will be celebrating 100 years. The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay aims to not only commemorate the previous century, but also highlight what the future holds for the organisation. As we continue to salute their sacrifice and provide continuous care to those who have given so much, we want to honour the past, thank the present and build the future for Legacy.
