Lockheed Martin Australia continues JP9102 teaming momentum

CANBERRA, 29 November, 2021 – Lockheed Martin Australia today announced the addition of two leading Australian technology providers to its JP9102 team: Calytrix Technologies and EM Solutions.

These teammates are supporting Lockheed Martin Australia in developing a sovereign Military Satellite Communication (MILSATCOM) capability for Defence, defined by its operational superiority in terms of coverage, capacity, resilience and extensibility.

“To deliver a sovereign MILSATCOM capability in a timeframe that meets Defence’s needs, Lockheed Martin Australia draws on the best that Australian industry has to offer,” said David Ball, regional director for space at Lockheed Martin Australia.  “We’ve been clear from the outset that our JP9102 philosophy is to maximise Australian industry content, and these latest teammates are a testament to that enduring commitment. Investing in local capabilities facilitates the transfer of skills, know-how and technology to strengthen Australia’s defence and space industry—and will play a lead role in the development and support of our solution.”

Leveraging decades of experience in the support of complex Defence projects, Calytrix and EM Solutions will provide best-of-breed technology and support services for JP9102 across a diverse set of work packages.

  • Calytrix, a Western Australian-based leader in integrated training solutions, is developing an innovative and modern training management system in satellite operations. The system will manage courseware, simulations and scenarios, assessments and compliance processes.

“Lockheed Martin Australia has long recognised the importance of working with and elevating the capabilities of local industry,” said Shawn Parr, Calytrix chief executive officer and cofounder. “We’re thrilled to build on our already longstanding relationship by delivering the training, equipment and materials required to support their operationally mature satellite system.”

  • EM Solutions, a Brisbane-based subsidiary of Electro Optic Systems, will establish an interoperability and certification program to ensure existing and future end-user terminals meet all required standards under the new sovereign construct.

“Working with Lockheed Martin Australia on JP9102 is a breakthrough opportunity for EM Solutions to further develop our breadth of specialist capabilities that will have downstream benefits for Australian industry long into the future,” said Rowan Gilmore, EM Solutions’ chief executive officer.

Calytrix and EM Solutions join a growing network of Australian SMEs and team members, including Av-Comm, Shoal Group, Clearbox Systems, STEM Punks and Ronson Gears, that are supporting Lockheed Martin Australia to deliver best-of-breed sovereign solutions and supply chain opportunities for JP9102 and beyond.
