CANBERRA, Australia, April 29, 2021: Defence technology and innovation company, Lockheed Martin Australia (LMA), has congratulated tertiary students Emily Armstrong of New South Wales and Campbell Jennings of Queensland as the recipients of 2021 Gallipoli Scholarship Fund LMA Bursaries.
The official announcement of the 2021 bursary awards by the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund was made in a virtual presentation ceremony on Thursday 22nd April.
Joe North, the Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin Australia, said the partnership with the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund through the Lockheed Martin Australia Bursary honoured the legacy of Australia’s Armed Forces and the service of its veterans.
“Through the Lockheed Martin Australia Bursary, which is now in its second year, we are proud to support Australia’s best and brightest to pursue their goals in STEM-based careers,” he said. “Our hope is that these scholarships will provide assistance to each recipient as they embark on their respective academic journeys, further supporting descendants of our veterans.”
Emily Armstrong, whose great grandmother served in the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF) during World War Two, is studying advanced science.
“I want to work in a STEM-focused career and have always enjoyed the sciences,” said Emily. “My current course is allowing me to learn about a variety of scientific fields before selecting a research specialisation to pursue for Honours.”
Campbell Jennings, whose great grandfather served in the Australian Army’s 35th Battalion during World War Two, is studying engineering and computer science.
“I chose a dual engineering and computer science degree as it encompasses the subject areas that I am passionate about,” said Campbell. “It is my hope that the combination of these will give me the foundation I need to explore a broad range of STEM-based careers after I graduate from university.”
Established in 2020 with an investment in excess of $120,000, LMA will award 12 bursaries in total up until the end of 2023.

About the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund LMA Bursary
The Gallipoli Scholarship Fund (GSF) is an Australian not-for-profit established in 1996 to provide scholarships for eligible descendants of Australian veterans to undertake tertiary studies. The purpose of the GSF is to honour the memory and legacy of Australian veterans.
Lockheed Martin Australia announced the establishment of the LMA Bursary in February 2020 with an investment in excess of $120,000 to provide 12 bursaries in total — one in 2020, two in 2021 and a further nine awarded up until the end of 2023.
To be eligible for an LMA Bursary, applicants must satisfy the same core criteria common to all Gallipoli scholarships. They must be a direct descendant of an Australian veteran and additionally be enrolled in a tertiary course of study in a STEM field or related discipline.
